If there’s anything our closets have revealed to us this 2021, is the fact that we don’t really need that much stuff to survive. Essential living has taught us that the basics can give us not only joy but also a sense of well-being.
With this in mind and as 14 pairs of shoes made their way into the trash can the other day—victims of neglect and humidity this long pandemic subjected them to—I realized that my trusty rubber slip-ons (aka “step-ins”) have been my all-around besties this long pandemic.
And I (and my bunions) were pretty happy knowing that with the current round-the-clock, stay-at-home situation, having a good pair that was comfortable (24/7 level comfort is key), convenient to clean (important in this day and age) and cute enough to wear in public (yes, it’s still advisable to wear footwear that doesn’t look like the dog chewed on it haha) is imperative.

2. H&M Platform Slides (in Greige)
This newer version, (I wore an older one in metallic above) in this soft latte color called Greige, looks so fluffy and comfy yet still manages to look classy. The slight platform height also makes it high enough so that your sweatpants won’t be dragging on the floor but low enough to make walking from errand to errand a just little bit less dangerous. 3. Adidas Marimekko Adilette Slides
I’ve seen so many of the signature navy and white striped Adilette slides lining the edge of swimming pools and dressing rooms that it was hard not to check out Adidas and their newest designs. I was pleasantly surprised to find a Marimekko collaboration! For fans addicted to all things bold, exuberant and fun, the Marimekko Adilette slide could be the right fit for you.

4. Birkenstock Arizona Platform Sandals (in Silver)
Birkenstocks have been around so long that they’ve already made the fashion cycle of being “so over” to being the “it girl” once again. I owned a pair 20 years ago and wore them around the house until they were completely unwearable. The new silver version (under their more fashionable Papillio line) of the classic Birks shape is so cool and versatile that I’m pretty sure this will be the go-to sandal you will love to wear in and out of the house.

5. Mango Platform Sandals with knot (in Black)
Always a safe bet, black slides are a good 24/7 option. I always have a pair near our front door and find them so convenient to step into for a quick run to the grocery, mall or friend’s place…black always makes me feel a bit more dressed up somehow.
